Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a tiny sleepy town. It is the West Island, to those not familiar with it, is a vast region that runs from Lachine all the way west. Many times, it is credited as being the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time in the city was brief. Brugel grew on Courtice just outside Oshawa within Ontario. She initially wanted to pursue a career as an actress however, after a rapid increase in size, her friends could no longer dance along with her. The article she wrote about her experience revealed that was published in the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. As soon as I outgrew all my male partners, I stopped. Many ex-dancers switch to acting. In Brugel's case it was the guidance by her drama instructor at high school that led her to the path she required. She was encouraged to try out for roles in a school production. The teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the annual school production. A Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she completed her studies in Theatre and graduated with the Bachelors in Fine Arts in the year 2000. Since then, Brugel has been in over 60 productions both big and small. Most notable was when she landed Rita's role on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the character the character of Rita on The Handmaid's tale, a series that was filming over 10 years ago.
